My anime journey began in childhood with classic series like “Dragon Ball Z” and “Pokémon,” which were some of the first anime to gain popularity in India. What started as casual viewing quickly evolved into a deep appreciation for the artistry, storytelling, and cultural significance of anime. As I grew older, I found myself drawn to a wider variety of genres, from thought-provoking psychological thrillers to heartwarming slice-of-life series.
Growing up in India, accessing anime wasn’t always easy. I remember the excitement of discovering new series through borrowed DVDs, occasional TV broadcasts, and later, the internet. This challenge of access made each anime discovery feel special and fueled my desire to create a platform where Indian fans could easily connect with and discuss their favorite series.
My academic background in Media Studies, with a focus on global entertainment and digital platforms, further fueled my passion. During my university years, I had the opportunity to research the impact of anime on global pop culture, with a particular interest in its growing influence in India. This academic pursuit gave me valuable insights into how anime resonates with diverse audiences and its potential for bringing people together across cultural boundaries.
Before founding Anime Mantra, I worked as a content creator for several Indian pop culture websites, honing my skills in writing, analysis, and community engagement. However, I always felt there was something missing in the existing platforms – a sense of true community and depth of discussion that I craved as a fan, especially one tailored to the Indian anime community.
The idea for Anime Mantra came to me during a local anime screening event in my city. Seeing the enthusiasm of fellow Indian anime fans and hearing their stories of how they discovered and fell in love with anime, I realized that my desire to share thoughts on series, hear others’ perspectives, and dive deep into themes and artistic choices wasn’t unique to me.
